Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the crowd.

We contacted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the best one. They looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like its name implies, the GE Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchens. This refrigerator has it all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is an extra amount, I'd like to see better.

This fridge is a great option, despite the slight blip. It has a huge freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth French door fridges. It also holds a lot of frozen food compared to other models.

The drawers are easy to open and shut however I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with all the features you would expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support, and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from any place in the globe. It also offers numerous options for customizing. It also gives you notifications when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs defrosting and when it's time to change the filter.

The Ice maker is among the top we've tested and produces pyramid-shaped ice with a low use of water. This fridge is the perfect option for a single family or kitchenettes who want an integrated look and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This refrigerator was rated as the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test due to a variety of reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0° Fahrenheit and never fluctuated more than a fraction - this is crucial to avoid freezing burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within an hour, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who need a lot of space in the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized door bins at each door and two rows of spill-capture shelves and a set sleeker drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give taller items more room. There's also a full-width drawer to store products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the nice features of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is inside the freezer, making it easy to move the ice to the refrigerator to be used when it is needed. The freezer also comes with innovative design features such as sliding drawers that can help you organize your belongings. It also has a large container for storing frozen food, and a separate one for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another awesome feature of the refrigerator. It allows you to control the fridge's temperature, lighting, and more via your smartphone. It's a great way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, particularly if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat, but it doesn't necessarily improve the efficiency of the fridge. The fridge in french took a bit longer to defrost food and chill it than other models we tried. This could be due to the bigger capacity.

The doors are another problem with this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken on the front, which allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, however they're not easy for taller people to guide closed without slamming them. It's also a bit less than the best counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which helps make it a popular choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth french door fridge without water dispenser Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good option for those looking for a French-door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It's a basic design that isn't as striking visually as some of the competition, but it has enough features that make it a great option. Its most notable feature is the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker and a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located over the two crisper bins, is another nice feature. The drawer allows you to divert part of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can store foods that need extra attention. You can alter this feature by using a slider that's located right on the outside of the drawer. It is also possible to use this to set a general cooling level for the entire fridge however, I've found that changing the general settings tends produce better results than specific ones.

During my tests, I discovered that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator did not differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a good performance, but does not quite make it to the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
