UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time, the handles on your doors will get worn out and will require replacement. When replacing upvc window handles them, it is essential that the new handles conform to the critical dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

Inline Lever/Lever

The spring lever design allows the handle to be positioned and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The lever that is sprung can be shortened to fit the widest range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further away from the door. A shorter lever can be used on doors that have a latch that can be activated with the thumb inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles used on the majority of doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are usually used on UPVC double glazing door handles glazed doors. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes.

The handles have been tested to at least 200 000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This gives the handle a high performance and durability to serve its intended purpose.

All UPVC handle lever pads come with a spindle, screws and can be installed on a uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have springs, which eliminate the issue of door handles for double glazed doors that move out of their horizontal position when not being used.

When selecting a replacement window handle UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement may also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the correct handles.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically used on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins inside the lock body, allowing them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

Choosing the right cylinder is vitally important; this is contingent on how your doors and handle are utilized. External doors, for example should be equipped with higher security cylinders, whereas doors inside can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. In addition, some cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security further, such as anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however, when this isn't possible, you may take it off to measure. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, therefore it is crucial that it's not too long.

The design of many modern cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This will help to deflect the attack and keep your doors safe.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a growing kind of attack on cylinders, where the break line in the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and more straightforward than opening the door with a multipoint lock and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits inside the base of the door handle backplate, providing a spring solution that returns your multipoint lock handles to their original position after usage. There was a time when handles did not have a spring built into them and without this they can droop or drop when the locking mechanism is removed. Adding this simple component is among the best ways to correct this and it is also an excellent way to stop your upvc doors from getting stuck in an open or closed position, as they are not always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with multipoint locks sprung but they won't work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a bespoke hole cut into the backplate to allow them to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing broken or missing cassettes in the door handle backplate of many brands of uPVC doors. They are available as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
