How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

If your bifold door repairs doors have become stuck to the wall, they might need a little maintenance. They could require cleaning or lubricated, or even adjusted. The issue could be caused by an unfastened bolt on the top pivot or by the top guide roller.

The most frequent issue that internal bifolding doors face is the sliding out of alignment. This could be due to loose screws, holes in the anchor/pivot pins or simply a misaligned door. In most cases, you can correct this by making a few simple adjustments, but if the door isn't moving at all, it might need to be removed and replaced.

You'll have to take off the door with the help of a screwdriver and possibly a pair pliers to loosen any pivot pins that are tight. The screwdriver is used to release any locking levers on the bottom bracket of the pivot and the pliers will allow you to wiggle the pin and take it off.

Another common problem with bifold doors is that it scrapes against the floor when it opens or closes. This can happen after adding carpet, or other flooring materials which require the doors be raised slightly to allow for clearance. This issue can be solved by getting rid of the screws that adjust the bottom pivot and loosening the top track mounting screws, and moving the anchor/pivot.

A new set of top roller guides is a low-cost solution to a problem that may make bifold doors difficult to operate. They are typically available at your local hardware shop in the door section. However they can be bought on the internet from a variety of vendors. In addition to a new top guide for rollers, you'll require a small amount of Elmer's wood glue, which is available in big box stores as well as a squeeze clamp. The clamp is used to keep the repair area closed tightly after the glue has been placed in and dried.
