AMBIEN can interact with many other medicines. Discuss with your physician your medications such as prescription and nonprescription supplements, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Take Precautions

The patient should be aware that AMBIEN could cause issues with sleep (e.g. sleep-walking and talking when driving, or when preparing food) also, and in certain cases, harm or even death has been reported. AMBIEN should not be consumed just before bedtime. Patients are advised to take a nap for at least 8 hours before doing activities that require full alertness.

Advise patients that AMBIEN may induce dizziness, drowsiness blurred/double vision and decreased consciousness which could increase the risk of falls in elderly patients. Patients should be directed to stay clear of activities that require alertness until they're fully awake. They should also not operate vehicles or operate machinery after the use of AMBIEN.

It is important to inform women that breastfeeding is not advisable with AMBIEN because zolpidem enters the infant's milk and has been proven to induce respiratory depression in newborns [see Use In Specific Populationsin Use In Specific Populations. Patients should be instructed to keep AMBIEN and other drugs out of reach for children.
