Saab Key Programming

Saab cars made since 1994 come with an immobilizer system that is based on codes for keys. A new transponder is required in order to enable the addition of a second key, and special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using the Tech2 diagnostic tool.

The issue is that this could be quite costly. You should always keep an extra set of keys available.

Transponder key

The transponder is a key with an electronic chip. The chip transmits a signal when the key is put in the ignition. The car checks to see whether the signal matches with the one on the key. If the signals match, the car will unlock itself and start. This is a great way to deter car theft and keep your car safe from thieves.

Transponder keys could be a popular addition to automobiles, but they are not as secure as traditional metal keys. While the metal portion of a traditional key may be cut and copied, a transponder is protected by an electronic chip.
