The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest model in the series of top-of-the-line best robot vacuum that mops vacuum cleaners that are a staple of any modern household. This model comes with a HEPA-filter to assist those who suffer from allergies. Additionally, it also has a strong battery which can clean for up to two hours and it will automatically return to its dock once its bin is full.

It also comes with an option called smart mapping that uses multiple sensors to suss out the areas of your home that require attention and make a tidy route around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a good job of maneuvering around toys that have been left scattered on the floor or furniture legs that stick out of the ground. Roomba also comes with a sensor that can snap Roomba to its real-world location if it begins to drift away from its original location.

iRobot has also added a new set of rollers under the Roomba's bottom that don't have bristles and, therefore, tend to be more resistant to tangles than earlier models. They're also taller than previous rollers and can better fit under low couches and beds, and they're designed to let this model move more easily across different floor kinds.

What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models with a higher-end price tag however, is its incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature that utilizes cameras to identify particles of dirt embedded. This is a great improvement over the previous model, which relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around a room and clean it at least three times from different angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. It scored highly on carpets with low pile and on mid-pile. It did a great job getting rid of pet hair, but had a difficult time with the thick and best cheap Robot vacuum long pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed despite the slight limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It has many of the features you'd expect from a flagship model, but doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration that you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up in a matter of minutes and is available for use immediately. After removing the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all you have to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its large "Clean" button and let it go to work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery is out or it's full of debris, and it also has indicators at the top of the device to indicate that the bin is full, it needs to be recharged, or its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
