WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random extra substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

For instance, it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
