Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spots.

If you are looking for an easy ride in your pram, choose models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so be prepared with an repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, the symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look stylish and easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with a newborn baby and a 3-year-old child and found it to be very durable. It handled cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was sturdy to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and need to be pumped up regularly and have a suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my children.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that allows the child to face you, while others only permit a parent-facing option.

Larger wheels give your buggy more stability while driving on rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for buggies that are off-road. They also help you maneuver the buggy through tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies feature swivel wheels on the front, which help you navigate tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is also helpful in the event that you hit an unintentional tree root or road, as the front wheel will lift up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheel reversible stroller-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground and the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with the way it handled the kerbs, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was very stable for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel reversible stroller wheel buggy might make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when your home is a city. If this is an issue then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.
