WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current Item Level Upgrade level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrader mod, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item upgrades level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if those items are from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and simplest upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item upgrader kit reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
