Replacement Upvc Window Handles

The majority of replacement window seals window handles made of upvc include everything you require to complete the task. However, if the old handle had pins or screws that were holding it, they will need to be removed. Take off the "snap-in" cover at the base of your handle.

Espag

Espag handles are a multipoint lock system that is installed on casement windows such as uPVC and wooden double glazing. Espag handles, also referred to as shootbolts, give more security than the single point locks found on older window frames.

You'll need to determine the spindle size from the base of your uPVC handle if you want to purchase the correct replacement. This measurement, also known as the step height, will assist you in selecting the best uPVC window handle for your home.

If you need to remove any screws that hold the handle, use the screwdriver or pliers. After removing the pins or screws that hold the spindle in place you can take it apart to disassemble the handle.

After removing the handle, you can access the locking mechanism in the frame of the windows and domestic remove the cockspur block connected to the handle. This will allow the window to be opened. The replacement uPVC window handles you have purchased will now be able to fit on the cockspur wedge block, and then into the spindle of the handle which will allow the window to be opened again. Cockspur

Cockspur handles are found on older uPVC or aluminum windows. The handle rotates and closes over the receiver, which is a wedge-shaped plastic catch (not to be confused with window latches made from timber that are also covered in this section). These handles are available in lockable and nonlockable models. They are available in a variety of different nose heights to fit the frame.

The handle locks by a slender spur (little triangle bit) pulling up against a wedge of plastic that is fixed to the frame. These are generally one way handles, however a deadlock lock cylinder that locks is a possibility to add security.

Similar to Espag handles, replacement handles for cockspur handles are easy to install all you need is an additional set of screws (supplied) and the correct backset. The backset is measured from the baseplate to the underside nose of the handle. Aluminium window frames are usually 9mm wide, whereas UPVC is 21mm wide. There is also an option for self-locking pozidriv screws.

This cockspur handle is easy to install and is ideal for replacing or repairing old uPVC Windows. They have an unidirectional design that makes them suitable for all backsets and profiles. Each handle has three packers, each of a different thickness. They are installed on the underside of handle noses and can be stacked to create backsets as small as 9, 13mm, or as large 21mm. The handles are available in left and right-handed models, and in lockable and nonlockable versions. They are also available in a variety of nose heights.

Tilt and Turn

Tilt and turn windows are a premium European window design that has been used for a long time in Europe, but is only getting noticed in the US. They combine the advantages of three window styles into one: tilt, pivot and in-swing. This makes them suitable for older homes since they can provide a greater level of ventilation than traditional window types.

When tilt and turn windows are closed, they lock like any other fixed window. By turning the handle either 90or 180 degrees depending on the tilt-and-turn type of window the sash opens inwards and the window tilts inward to allow air to circulate. This is an excellent way to let air circulate without having to open an enormous windows that could be dangerous.

The sash can also be opened fully by turning the handle 90or 180@. This allows for complete air exchange which is especially beneficial in rooms with a lot of draft or where smoke or other smells can build up. This allows you to easily clean the glass's exterior by doing it from inside your home. This is a job which often requires precarious steps.

Tilt and turn windows are extremely secure. When locked in a closed position, they are very difficult to open from the outside and they feature double seals that prevent rainwater from entering the home when they are in the tilted or in-swing position. This can be a particularly useful feature for domestic older homes where intruders are more likely to target windows that can be opened from the side hinges.

Spade

There are many kinds of window handles that can be installed to double-glazed windows made of upvc. The two main kinds are Espag handles and Cockspur handles.
