The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on carpets and hard floors. Its score on the low pile carpet was excellent and it also scored a excellent score on mid pile too. It was successful in picking up pet hair however it struggled with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the best performing robots on our list, despite these minor limitations. It's also less expensive than other top-of-the-line models. It has many of the features you'd expect from a top model, but it doesn't have all the fancy apps or smart home integration that you'll see in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up in a matter of minutes and is ready to use as soon as you are ready to. After taking off the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from its undercarriage you simply plug it into the wall socket or one of its Home Base docking stations, press the "Clean button" and let it do its job. It will automatically return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's stuffed with debris, and it has indicators on the top of the device to indicate that the bin is full, it requires recharging, or its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
