Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Mulliner, Bentley's custom coachbuilding unit, has designed a unique keycase to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the company. Made of Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a flying 'B' paperweight, a set keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.

Aesthetics

As a company that is primarily focused on design, Bentley takes its aesthetics extremely seriously. It shows in the precision position of its quilting, the selection of leather from by-products of cattle production, the wood from sustainably managed forests and the ingenious patterns that are etched on its levers. As you approach a car like the Continental GT W12, its exquisite design is revealed through carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever made. The rear tonneau, for instance, featured the largest piece of dark-stained, book-matched Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to an actual production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embroidered in Centenary Gold, adding to the feeling of celebration. A custom Bentley key case is also included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key features buttons that open the trunk and a second button which starts the car. It also has a switch that can activate the parking break. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors if you are parking in a tight spot. This feature makes it easier to get into and out of your car.

The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather and takes more than two days to create each one. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed after which it is sealed and polished to produce a premium result. It is sturdy compact and fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar to the Volkswagen Phaeton large car's key, but it feels much heavier and has a more premium feel.

Instead of letting the car's built-in sensors guide it to parallel and perpendicular parking spots, drivers have to do it by hand.
