What You Should Know About Your Peugeot Key Fob

Keyless Entry

In addition to unlocking and opening your car doors, certain key fobs also have the ability to start the engine. This is useful in the event that you have to leave your vehicle during hot weather, or if you're carrying heavy items in the boot that make it difficult to open the door manually. To unlock the car using your key fob, simply press the unlock button a few times in quick intervals. The door locks should unlock and the red LED light will start to flash. If this does not occur then your key fob battery may be dead and needs to be replaced. Alternatively, RF interference from nearby buildings could cause interference to your system.

Some key fobs also have physical keys that can be used to unlock your vehicle (often for the driver's side door, but sometimes the boot as well). They can be opened by opening an opening on the fob, or a button on the case. The key's physical form can slide out of an opening in the case to open the lock.

Key fobs are susceptible to being damaged by water, especially if the chips inside them are exposed to salty or soapy water. In some cases keys will stop working completely due to an issue with the chip. If this happens the key fob will have to be replaced - typically by the dealer. However, locksmiths may provide replacement keys quicker than a dealer, and at a much lower cost.

Remote Start

If your key fob comes with the remote start feature, it will allow you to start the engine without having to have your car keys in hands. This is especially helpful if it's hot and you want to cool your car down while running around. But, there are a few things you should know before using this feature.

Certain key fobs have a specific remote engine start button (for example Ford's keyfob has an arrow that is circular and going clockwise) which you must press to remotely start your car. Mazdas, for instance, require you to first lock the key and then press the Start button.

If you're having trouble starting your car, you might have a dead or weak battery inside the key fob. The battery of the key fob isn't powerful enough to send a signal to your car's system.

If this is the case, you'll need to replace the batteries in your key fob, or try changing the program. Door Locks

Peugeot were one of the first car makers to implement an immobiliser device in a key. The immobiliser chip stops the car from starting if it sees an untrue signal being sent from the key to the car. In the beginning, this is great, but as they age the chips can get worn out and begin to cause issues. This usually begins with an alert that reads 'anti theft system active on the dashboard or a warning light lit up stating "immobiliser fault".
