If they scratch, but the eight ball isn't pocketed, they do not lose and the game continues like it normally would after a scratch. On a free shot Rule 6.2 Wrong Ball First is suspended and the player may take the cue ball in position or in hand in baulk. If the ball called is not pocketed, any other balls pocketed on that shot are replaced on the table on the spot where the rack is made or, if more than one ball is replaced, in a line from that spot; the player then loses his turn. As long as a shot first contacts the lowest ball, any ball pocketed allows the player to continue shooting. Penalties of one ball replaced on the table in addition to those pocketed on the foul stroke are assessed for such infractions as failure to comply with rules for the break shot; touching the cue ball twice with the cue on the same stroke; pocketing the cue ball ("scratching") or knocking it off the table; and failing either to pocket a ball, to drive an object ball to a cushion, or to drive the cue ball to a cushion after contacting an object ball.

If the ten ball is pocketed on a legal break shot, it will be re-spotted and the player continues with his inning. Suppose that there were ten billion people (another overestimate - there are about 6.4 billion at the time of writing). Altogether that's a mass of one billion tonnes of humanity jumping ten metres in the air. In pocket billiards, 15 numbered object balls are used in addition to one white ball; the object balls numbered from 1 to 8 are in solid colours, those from 9 to 15 in stripes. At the beginning of play the 15 object balls are racked at one end of the table in a triangular pattern, what is billiards using a triangular wooden or plastic "rack." In stroke contests (e.g. golf) a certain number of strokes are subtracted from or added to the scores, according to the strength of the players. The numbers of the balls are added up to determine the winner of the game. The dimensions of the table are usually 4 by 8 feet (122 by 244 cm) or 4 1/2 by 9 feet (137 by 274 cm).
