How to Fix a Key Fob That isn't Working

If your key fob isn't working, a few easy steps can fix it. First, make sure that it's not your backup remote.

If your backup remote cannot unlock and lock the doors of your car, then it is most likely that the primary remote isn't functioning. Most problems with car remote keys are caused by battery or circuitry problems.

Battery

The battery inside the key fob could get worn out over the course of time. It is simple to replace a battery. However it is essential to select the right type. You can refer to the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer to find out the right kind. It's also a good idea to examine the battery compartment thoroughly, as dead batteries sometimes leak caustic chemicals that can cause damage to the remote.
