Nespresso Coffee Machines

Nespresso coffee makers are compact and small and are not as bulky as drip coffee machines. They have a basic black aesthetic and range in price and complexity. Some have a milk frother that can be used to create latte art, and they can be connected to an app to manage recipes or get notifications on descaling.

What is a Nespresso machine?

The Original Line

The Original line of pod-only machines includes the stylish Citiz and the Essenza Mini. Both machines penetrate the capsule and then pump hot water at high pressure through it, delivering an espresso or a lungo. The Original machines have a higher pressure of 19 bars than some of the Vertuo models, which use pumps that range from 15 to 18 bars.

The Vertuo machines create foam that is more dense and thicker than the crema produced by the Original machines. The crema is more than just froth. The Lattissima Line

This line of machines is perfect for those who like milky coffee drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos, and want one machine that can handle everything. It comes with three user-friendly recipes and its 4.2-ounce milk container is removable and dishwasher-safe. It's also lightweight, making it easy to move and store in a compact space. Some customers have complained that it is not as intuitive as other nespresso commercial machine machines.

The jug's drink-specific lines are etched into it, so you can decide beforehand which drink you want to make while the machine heats up. It also has a sensor that will automatically stops the steaming process when the jug is empty and stops the waste of milk.

The Lattissima One is a good value for the money, and it's available in four colors: black with gray accents, dark gray, porcelain white and silky white. It has an automatic drip tray similar to the OriginalLine models. The tray is designed to catch any loose ground when you pour espresso. This feature is great to prevent spills and overflow, which can ruin the taste of your espresso.

The Pro and Gran Lattissima both have a larger water tank than the Lattissima One, allowing them to hold more liquid before needing to refill. The two models also have a faster heating process (as as little as 15 seconds for espresso and 25 seconds for lungo) and have an enhanced hot water function that can be used to make tea or iced coffee.

The only real downside to the Lattissima is the difficulty in altering the consistency and the density of your milk foam. The machine is only suitable with skim milk (sorry Vegans and dairy-intolerant folks) and the foaming system doesn't work well with almond or vegetable milks. The wand that froths can be difficult to clean, which is a common complaint among Nespresso owners. Fortunately, the Lattissima Pro and Gran Lattissima come with a self-cleaning system that cleans the milky innards after each use of the frother.

The Vertuo Line

The Nespresso Vertuo makes a small but concentrated cup of coffee. It's perfect for those who love espresso. Each capsule is equipped with an engraved barcode on its rim that can be read by the machine's computer to determine the amount of coffee it will create. Nespresso utilizes a unique extraction technology to ensure that you get the most flavor from each Vertuo pod.

The Vertuo Line offers a wide selection of different drinks including Ristretto (mini espresso), Espresso, Lungo, Americano and Cappuccino. The machines also are compatible with the Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother to create frothy lattes and cappuccinos.

Each Vertuo Line coffee machine heats quickly and can be brewed in less than 30 seconds. They use smaller water tanks than Original Line machines and require less maintenance. There are a myriad of models to choose from that you can choose one that suits your home's style as well as your budget.

The only issue with the VertuoPlus is that it takes longer to make a cup than other machines, particularly when making an Americano.
