World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For example an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will take on an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the Best item upgrade to the upgrade (for examplethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of that equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

The player can have the maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will be available at the time of the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure what will be improved following an update.

Each level of item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields some Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item. Once enough points are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an individual player improves an item it will be replaced by the new item. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a problem, as it can make the item more expensive if you do not require it.

The upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This is useful for some items, but it's not something that should be done regularly, as it could waste many resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player is repeatedly in or exits the water. This item can be upgraded multiple times and increases the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is highly useful in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of a non-upgraded version.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade the level of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an item upgrader NPC. The upgrade of armor set pieces will also increase the base defense of that piece, while upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

Each item can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear which can have eight upgrades. Every time you upgrade an object, it is at risk of failing. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can result in the item returning to its initial state which means that the player has to pay for more resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar on its growth bar will be reset to zero. Additionally, the item will lose any bonuses it gained, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, a higher healing over time or reload speed). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in its crit chance it will be applied before any increase in attack damage.
