Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love their key fob's useful remote features. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the car or start the engine and even locate it.

First, put the key fob on an even surface, with the logo facing upward. Find the button that opens it, insert an object between the cover and the fob and pull it up slowly.

Unlocking the Doors

Locate the black button that is located near the edges of the body of your key fob, and gently press it to open a cover that houses the manual key blade. You will require a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip the cover counterclockwise, ensuring that the arrow is aligned with "open."

Use a fingernail to remove the cover on the back of the key fob. The button should be beneath the cover on a diagonal, near the edge of the body. Slide it down and then to the right. The cover will be released, and then slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you're still unable to locate the button, you can search the newly exposed manual key access area to see whether there's a hidden slot or lever.

Closing the Windows

Turning off the Alarm

Set out your key fobs as well as batteries and additional keys on a clean surface. Find the small black button at the bottom left corner on the key fob, and slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade underneath.

You can unlock all doors and the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's key twice. The lock button also closes the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for two seconds. Connect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If it doesn't then the owner's manual must contain a reset process.
