The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and equipment with new affixes, boosting its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the Item Upgrader Kit (Elearnportal.Science) in their inventory and access the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to stronger bases. Items with strong bases, like eth Titans have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be slotted into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, giving an attribute bonus or extra effect while the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, gathered in loot, thrown away by enemies or as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain level before they are upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players must select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade statistics and the required component or materials.

There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which include gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are jewels that can only be used in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same benefits as jewels, however they cannot be used in other equipment. In the case of upgrades to gather tools when a player swaps one glyph with another, the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, except for inscriptions which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now categorized in tracks, and each item is able to be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, however the materials required do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a handful of essential items and maximize their impact rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

This will enable the item to receive new upgrade components and a greater chance of success. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Power and it will reset to zero in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

This method is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the backsight rod and level before turning the level and taking the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that structures are built to an extremely high degree of precision and security.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing an item's upgrade item components. It is an important aspect of the game and can dramatically increase the strength of an item, damage, or other characteristics. You can do this via the item menu, or by pressing the Reroll button whenever you upgrade an item. Rerolling can be expensive and should only be done in very rare instances.

Reroll tokens are earned by recycling upgraded items. These tokens are then used to upgrade the original item, or to upgrade another similar item level upgrade. Recyclable items come with an indicator of the level which shows how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The amount of level that has been filled is contingent on the rarity and the upgrade cost of the item.

In the past, certain upgrade items had priority affixes which made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you'd receive the most crucial stats for your build more frequently than other items. This included things like the armor's total armor, thorns, and control impaired duration reduction stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This has changed since the most recent patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for every stat. This can be a great or a negative thing dependent on your needs and requirements from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can come with a unique fixed-value bonus that boosts its strength by a certain percentage. These bonuses are added to normal affixes. The more you improve a product, the better your chances of receiving the bonus of a different kind.

The game also includes number sets that give an extra bonus when three or four upgraded items from the set are equipped on an unit. This is a great method of giving the character more power without spending a lot of money.

Sets

To see if an item is worth upgrading, players can click the Upgrade button in the character screen.
